Teaching not policing

I was speaking to a student teacher recently. She told me that when she left school she was undecided between joining the police and becoming a teacher. Her mind was made up after she was arrested and investigated for attempted credit card fraud. Somebody had got hold of her log-in details and used them to make a purchase with a stolen credit card. She was treated like a common criminal, with no apparent regard to the law of, ‘presumed innocent until guilty.’ Had the police checked with The University of Hertfordshire they would have quickly established that she was in an exam at the time of the offence.

When the real offender was eventually caught the police offered no apology or acknowledgement of their mistake. She wanted nothing to do with the police after that, and is now coming to the end of her degree before going on to do a PGCE. Her Majesty’s Police lost out on a talented potential officer because of their lack of social skills and regard for the respect and dignity of an innocent person they arrested on suspicion of a crime.

One might argue that they cannot treat all those they arrest as pleasantly as you would expect to be treated in Debenhams, for example, but what we see here is a real life case of a law-abiding citizen, now set to be a pillar of our society, being treated more like a traitor than a teacher. This is not the best way to encourage intelligent, thinking people to join a police force which is rated as among the most honest and incorruptible in the world.

You’ll be pleased to know that A1 Tutors does not treat either its staff or clients like common criminals, but with courtesy and respect. That must be why we have plenty of both!

(The above article does not necessarily vouch for all Debenhams’ staff as lovely!)

Show Business

If you’ve been coming to our free shows every couple of months you’ll no doubt be wondering when the next one is. There would normally be one in May, but that would leave only one month’s gap between that and the ‘Best Of One World Club’ show on 10th June. That show is the biggest and best show of the whole year; everybody’s favourite acts in one show. I’ll tell you all about it in next month’s newsletter, but meantime, write the date down in your calendar, 10th June, 6.30pm at The Cock Hotel’s function room, The Marquee Suite, High St. Stony Stratford.

Have a good month,

Andy
