About A1 Tutors

The agency is owned by husband and wife team Andy and Lynda Gilbert.

Andy is a former guitar teacher, and has devoted his life to bringing out the potential of youngsters, whether through his own music teaching or the dedication of the tutors working for the agency.

Lynda is a former school teacher, with a B.A. Hons in Comparative Literature from the University of East Anglia and a P.G.C.E. in TEFL. She has since left teaching to become a counsellor with the NHS, but regularly consults with Andy on agency matters.

Andy now deals with offline marketing and promotion, while most of the day to day work is handled by capable team members, Stella (Enquiries Manager), John (LEA Contracts Manager), and Dave, who is A1 Tutors Webmaster.Andy can often be seen performing at One World Club. This is a club devoted to promoting cultural harmony through performance, and, as such, stages a show every second month in Bradwell Abbey, Milton Keynes.

Meet the team

John’s task is to manage the local authority work. This can mean anything from finding the right tutor for a child with behavioural difficulties, to sorting out a crisis when a tutor calls in sick who is expected to meet a child for tuition at the local library, to deciding what to do when the taxi which the LEA booked to take the child home doesn’t show up. John always remains calm in the face of an emergency and deals with situations in a professional and responsible manner.John Often goes caravanning during the holidays with his wife, a school teacher, enjoying the freedom of travel that comes with taking your own hotel with you.

 

Stella is our chief enquiries manager. Always keen to help, Stella is a friendly, happy person who positively enjoys talking to people on the phone. Once she’s established the caller’s needs, she’ll pass them over to Dave, our Placement Officer, whose job it is to find the right tutor. When she’s not busy on the phone, Stella enjoys DIY and decorating.

 

 

 

 

Dave, a gifted computer man is the agency’s webmaster, and can occasionally be seen playing bass and singing alongside Andy Gilbert, the agency’s owner.Dave also enjoys playing bass guitar and singing with six piece party and function band PIZAZZ and can often be heard on American radio station Majic 102.7. He also enjoys eating out and walking.
